no question is too embarrassing, i’ve heard it all before. and lucky for you, i have all the answers!
does it hurt?
You are booking a body sugaring treatment, you can expect a little hurt. Think pulling a bandage from the skin ….. don’t be scared!
If you have always used a razor prior to sugaring, the first appointment will be the most uncomfortable. The hair has been ‘trimmed’ over and over with a razor, allowing the root to mature. When this larger root is pulled, it is more difficult to remove from the follicle. On areas with dense hair distribution, the sensation will be stronger. The good news …. with regular treatments, the roots will not have a chance to mature and it will be easier to remove the hair, meaning less discomfort for you!
Some clients find it helps to pop an anti-inflammatory painkiller before an appointment to help take the edge off.
does less hair really grow back?
Yes!!! Sweet, eh? Most clients notice a significant amount of hair doesn’t grow back after the first few treatments. You will notice after just the first session that the hair grows back finer.
Regular extraction at 1/8″ (the Anagen phase of hair growth) leads to permanent hair loss. When hair is extracted at that length it pulls some of the follicle wall out with it each time, eventually causing it to collapse.
how long does your hair have to be to get sugared?
Hair only needs to be 1/8″ to be removed (shorter than if you were waxing). It is preferred if you have been shaving to wait minimum 7 days to get sugared (although everyone’s hair growth is different).
Hair that has been sugared often and regularly will come away much easier, so it can be shorter. Hair that has never been sugared has a larger bulbous root, and is therefore more difficult to remove.
Keep in mind, if hair is too short, you may be asked to reschedule in order to ensure you have the best results after your appointment.
how do i avoid ingrowns? or what do i do if i get one?
The most important prevention includes exfoliating and moisturizing regularly!! For more info on prevention or repair, read here.
can i shave between appointments?
Please, NO!!!!
i am on my period, can i still get sugared?
Yes! Of course! As long as you are comfortable, so am I. Besides, I am a woman too! There is no need to reschedule, just wear a fresh tampon and tuck the string in before we start!
You may be more sensitive a few days prior and during your period. Some clients say they pop an anti-inflammatory painkiller before, to take the edge off.
i’ve never been sugared before, what should i expect after treatment?
If it’s the very first time the hair is being removed or if you have been shaving for a while, the skin may be a bit red or bumpy for the first 24 hours. Do not worry! This is just an indication that the hairs have been removed from the follicle. These spots will disappear. You can apply a cold ice compress to the area and it will go down.
why is maintenance less expensive than the initial appointment?
The ‘skinny dipper’ initial appointment is what I recommend booking for any client that has never had this service from Sugar Cubed. It doesn’t matter if you have been sugared before, if this is your first appointment with me, then you are considered a ‘skinny dipper’ newbie. When you reschedule with me, within 4 weeks, you will then be able to book the maintenance service, and you will always be charged maintenance pricing, provided you are within the 4 week booking period. I charge less for the maintenance sugaring due to the reduction in hair growth, less time required and as a thank you for remaining loyal and committing to your hair removal schedule 😉
are there any risks to body sugaring?
I do not recommend body sugaring if you use Retin-A, enzyme peels, glycolic peels, vitamin C in a topical form or any other similar products within 5-6 weeks of appointment. Since these are topical treatments, all other body parts are fine.
If you are using Accutane or have used Accutane in the past 6 months, it is not safe to treat any area of your body.
It is also unsafe to sugar if you have recently undergone Microdermabrasion.
Areas that should not be treated: enlarged varicose veins, new scars, sunburned skin, warts.
what is a vajacial?
A facial for down below – this treatment can be done immediately following a brazilian treatment or between sugaring appointments. It is designed to pamper, detoxify and calm your skin. It also helps prevent or care for any ingrown hairs.
